Experience

  • The Hartford Data Engineer, Apr 2020 - Present

    • • Contributed to development of an automated data ingestion pipeline to collect IoT device data from our vendor’s APIs.
    • • Developed AWS Lambda functions to collect IoT device data. Wrote Python client libraries to abstract vendor-specific API calls (REST or SOAP) for use in our application. Collected IoT device data stored in AWS S3 as JSON objects.
    • • Developed AWS Glue jobs to ETL JSON data from S3 into Parquet format writing into our datalake.
    • • Used Dremio to administer datalake and coordinate data access to other teams.
    • • Created Tableau visualizations of IoT device data. Published library of dashboards to enterprise with Tableau Server.
    • • Contributed to development of internal web application. Worked on frontend (React.js, Material-UI & Apollo) and backend (Flask, SQLAlchemy, Graphene). Backend serves data with GraphQL API backed by Postgres database.
    • • Developed CI/CD Pipelines to build and deploy web application using AWS CodeBuild & CodePipelines.
    • • Developed a REST API to abstract interfaces to Salesforce and internal databases.
    • • Performed data science investigations with historical data from Oracle Databases.
    • • Developed generic python parsers with openpyxl to migrate historical data from spreadsheets into PostgreSQL database.
    • • Created and configured AWS S3 Buckets & IAM roles/policies for external vendors to deliver data artifacts.
  • Draper Laboratories Software Engineer, May 2016 - Apr 2020

    • • Leader of an agile team developing API distributed across microservice applications. Software provides interface to Test Equipment used to develop SNC Dreamchaser Flight Computers. Includes multiple server applications for Data Acquisition, DC Power, Serial Comms, GPS Timing & Sync, Digital IO and more.
    • • Lead developer of MATLAB data processing/visualization application used by program engineers to investigate accelerometer sensor operation/performance.
    • • Developed and packaged multi-container web applications with Docker built from Python, Redis, Elasticsearch, and Postgres.
    • • Developed dashboard application for remote monitoring of system operation. Python back-end (Flask) pulls data from test equipment monitoring APIs. Front-end rendered with jQuery, Bootstrap, and Bulma.io frameworks.
    • • Resolved project contention by virtualizing compute resources. Task required developing and maintaining virtual infrastructure hardware, operating systems, virtual machines and networking with Microsoft Hyper-V.
    • • Accelerated project workflow by developing GitLab CI/CD pipelines to automate application package build, test and deployment. DevOps administrator of internal Sentry instance used to track remote application error reports.
    • • DevOps administrator of internal Sentry instance used to track remote application error reports.
    • • Configured Red Hat Enterprise Linux computers to DISA STIG security standard with OpenSCAP.
    • • Mechanical design/drafting with Solidworks and CREO. Projects include design of accelerometer test fixture, cable/shorting plug drawings + rapid prototype card edge connector harness.
  • Major Qualifying Project Airborn Wind Energy, May 2015 - November 2015

    • Member of a 4-person team, developed a low-cost water pump system for impoverished rural communities that operates using airborne wind energy. Produced accurate Solidworks models to expedite an iterative design process. Conducted flight-testing at Blue Hills Observatory in Milton, MA.
